Property Description
Kansas Prairie
I own 160 acres of pastureland in East Central Kansas. These are divided
into two pastures, roughly equal in size. The pastures are located
on the western edge of the Flint Hills in Marion County. They are
characterized by gently rolling prairie consisting of native bluestem
grass. One of the pastures has a creek with woods meandering through
the western two thirds of the property. The creek can have flowing water
depending upon the time of year, usually during the spring rains. The
other pasture has a small pond to water the cattle. I would characterize
this as 80 acres of open range per pasture. Depending upon where a
person is standing, there isnt a building within ½ to 3/4 mile. I have seen
numerous types of wildlife on this pastureland, deer, rabbits, skunks,
badgers and coyotes. We have grazed cattle in these pastures all of my
life. In the wintertime the grasses have a reddish tint. In the spring the
dead grass is burned and new grass comes up with a beautiful green color.
Many native wild flowers also come with the spring rains. This would be an
excellent location if wide open spaces are desired.
