Property Description
This is an architecturally modern and exciting four-story, 3,200 sq. ft. house, built in 2000, by Ed Wall, in the hills of Sherman Oaks. The house hovers over a quiet canyon, offering amazing views of the valley, and Mulholland Dr. The drive up to the house is a beautiful hillside with gorgeous vistas as you approach the house.
The exterior of the house creates a Zen-like feel, landscaped with various bamboos and a slate landscape. The entrance creates a particular feel, beginning with artistic rod iron gate that encloses a patio area. The patio is furnished with a modern teak table and chairs, a water fountain, more bamboo and plumaria plants and a modern sculpture. It sets up the mood to enter a very interesting house. This patio allows for two entrances to the house, both with modern doors. Once you enter the house, you are taken aback by the auspicious view of the canyon. Ed Wall knew what he was doing to create a feel that the walls frame the nature view. The floors are all maple hardwood. Everyone immediately remarks at the "wow effect" of the entry.
The house is four levels with the entrance onto the main level made up of an open-floor plan of living room, dinning room and kitchen. The master bedroom suite is on the top level, and two levels below, including 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, gym plus an extra room All levels have patios with awesome views!
You enter the main level to the living room, dining room and kitchen open floor. The ceilings are high, and there are floor to ceiling windows and glass double doors to another patio. It creates a very open flexible floor plan. There are many vistas that are artistic and interesting. There are no interior walls between the living room, the dining room and the kitchen. The ceilings are extremely high at 14 to 18. The space is extremely light with windows surrounding 90% of the exterior walls. The living room is modernly decorated with Roche Bobouis furniture, a flat screen TV, fireplace, glorious crystals and again, fabulous views of the canyon. The kitchen is extremely modern with a Viking stove and Sub Zero fridge, Granite island and counters, fabulous views of the Valley and a beautiful patio off the side of the kitchen. The dining room is open and provides a number of alternatives for shooting.
Then, when going upstairs to the master bedroom, there is a staircase consisting of marble slabs, again providing fantastic views. The master bedroom is on the top floor, creating a modern, romantic ambiance and another fabulous patio with spectular views. The room feels very spacious and is decorated with modern, simple and elegant furniture, and maple hard wood floors. The bedroom flows to a unique master bath and shower with a skylight and a view of the valley from the tub.
Below the main level are two bedroom suites, with a patio flowing from both rooms. You descend from the main level to the downstairs, along a library wall, to a landing that is like a reception area. The modern bookcase wall has a sliding ladder to provide access to the 12ft. wall whose corners to the wall provide a unique vista; a great place to shoot.
The two bedrooms that flow from this room are nicely decorated; one as an office, the other as a guest suite. Both rooms provide an open feel, with high ceilings, lots of windows, full glass doors, hard wood floors with access to another great patio.
Below this floor is another two-room suite, one room contains a gym with Pilates equipment and the other, a guest room with a small bath.
The house gets critical acclaim and offers great privacy. The lot, just under an acre, is filled with old oak trees, is mostly hillside, and is the home to wildlife that you will see. The sunsets are picturesque, the mornings colorful, and the change of weather frequently makes us feel like we are living in a beautiful modern tree house. It is an extremely special house.
