In recent years the Ohio film industry has been striving to develop the notoriety of television and film in its state by assisting production companies, promoting films and helping develop better home-grown production crews. The Buckeye State is largely defined by the Ohio River, as well as 312 miles of Lake Erie coastline. Ohio includes more than a dozen metropolitan areas, and Cincinnati stretches into bordering states, making it a prime location for filming due to its easy access to other areas. Since former Gov. Ted Strickland approved a $30 million film tax credit in 2009, several movies have been shot in the state.
The Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit provides a refundable tax credit that equals 25% off of in-state expenditures.
