Located in the northeast part of Canada, Nunavut, meaning “our land” in Inuit, is the only self-governing territory in North America. Its capital city is less than 300° south of the Arctic Circle. Because the territory is so huge, weather varies greatly, but it is mostly a cold climate with gorgeous mountain ranges.
This province is still secluded and the only receive supplies by air transport, as there are no roads linking Nunavut to the rest of Canada. However, the snowy mountain peaks, historic land formations, and wildlife such as polar bears make for iconic scenery for any filming project.
The Nunavut government has set up a fund for filming with a limited cap of $175,000 per year until the year 2015, but is hopeful that legislation will be passed to increase available funds and incentives programs in the near future.
