Incentives

New legislation gives filmmakers a 25% non-transferable tax credit for films that are budgeted between $1 milliion and $75 millon.

California is the poster-child for the film industry and its history. Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Hollywood are household names across the country in the filming industry.

California is littered with incredible homes, beaches, mountains and valleys that make California a spot for any kind of filming location, and entertainment professionals are at a premium.

The California Film Commission does not charge a fee for permits or locations fees, and implements a 5% sales tax exemption on post-production equipment. While the majority of states have a lodging exemption for stays in excess of 30 days, California does not execute a hotel tax. The expected budget for filming per year is estimated at $100 million until the 2014 fiscal year ends.

California is home to over 50 regional film commissions, and has filmed so many successful movies over the years that it is almost futile to make a list of the best ones.

California is also committed to preserving the environment when making films, and the state film commission offers a "Green Resource Guide" to help people along these lines.
